About the MCSnet Scholarship

As one of Alberta’s largest rural internet providers, we believe students deserve to grow their education in technology. That’s why we started the MCSnet Scholarship program. Our local communities are at the heart of our success, and we want to invest in our young people’s future.

Each year, we offer four $1,000 local scholarships to graduating grade 12 students. To be eligible, you must be pursuing a post-secondary education in Computer Science or related studies, and you must reside in the MCSnet service area.

Scholarship Criteria

Eligible recipients must:

  • Be a graduating grade 12 student
  • Reside in the MCSnet service area
  • Be pursuing post-secondary education in Computer Science or a related field

The MCSnet Scholarship Engagement Committee chooses recipients based on the following criteria:

  • Academic Marks: Weighted 60%
  • Community Involvement: Weighted 40%
  • Tie-Breaking Criteria: Work experience or involvement in an initiative (may be technology-related) that has brought a positive impact to the community

Submission Requirements

  • Official high school transcript of final marks
  • Reference letter from principal or guidance/career counsellor
  • Official confirmation of acceptance in a post-secondary institution
  • A short, typed essay (800-1,000 words) outlining your post-secondary education goals and your career intentions. Additionally, include personal background, work experience, volunteer activities, and any other relevant accomplishments/activities.

MCSnet is a locally, family-owned, and operated business that is the largest rural high-speed internet provider in Alberta. At MCSnet we strongly believe in the importance of investing in our local communities and supporting our community through good-works initiatives. With this in mind, MCSnet is offering four, $1000 local scholarships to graduating grade 12 students that are pursuing post-secondary education in the field of Computer Science or related studies that reside in the MCSnet service area (please see service area map).

Applications for 2024 are now closed.

The 2025 applications will open on April 1, 2025.
