Are you a sports lover and looking to watch and enjoy some elite sporting events this February? Then you are about to be thrilled! There are 2 major sporting events coming this February: The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and the Super Bowl LX.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics run from February 6–22, 2026, across northern Italy. Expect packed schedules in hockey, curling, figure skating, speed skating, skiing and more. Super Bowl LX kicks off on February 8, 2026 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. It is one of the biggest single sports broadcasts of the year and sits right in the middle of the Winter Games.
With both events coming in the same month, it makes February a true streaming stress test for your home internet. Find our simple tips to get your setup ready, see where to watch in Canada, and how to find Team Canada schedules fast.
Tips to Stream Without Buffering
The best way to stay on top of all the games and sporting events this February is through streaming. However, an experience that is meant to be seamless and enjoyable can become frustrating when your streaming experience is interrupted by constant buffering. Here are quick tips to prepare for buffer-free streaming.
Check your speed and capacity
For one 4K stream, aim for at least 20–25 Mbps download. Add the same amount again for each extra 4K screen in use.
For HD (1080p) streams, 5–10 Mbps per stream is fine.
Upgrade strategically
If you are near your cap or running several TVs, consider upgrading to Unlimited data to avoid throttling or overage stress.
If multiple people stream at once or you host watch parties, move up a speed tier for February, then reassess later.
Get the MCSnet Unlimited Plan at no extra cost
If you are looking to upgrade this February, you are in luck as MCSnet is currently running a promo, offering current users to upgrade to unlimited for free until February 28; and new users an unlimited package for 3 months at just $49.95. Learn about the MCSnet Unlimited Connections Promo here.
Use ethernet for the main screen – if necessary
Plug your primary TV or streaming box into the router with an Ethernet cable if your Wi-Fi is unreliable. It bypasses Wi-Fi congestion and stabilizes bitrates during peak hours.
Fix your Wi-Fi layout
Place the router out in the open, high on a shelf, away from metal and microwaves.
Large homes or shops benefit from a mesh system. Put a node near the TV room.
Prepare your apps and reduce local interference
Update the streaming apps ahead of time. Sign in, set your preferred resolution, and test a live event the day before.
Pause big downloads, cloud backups and game updates during live events, especially if others in the house are online.
If you notice stuttering, drop your stream quality from 4K to 1080p. The picture is still crisp, but it uses less than half the bandwidth, freeing up space for the rest of the family.
Team Canada Schedules For The 2026 Winter Olympics, and How to Find Them Fast
Schedules change as qualification rounds settle. To stay updated on the schedule for Team Canada and other teams you may have your eyes on, use these official pages and add events to your calendar.
Many events in Italy run from morning to late evening local time, which means early mornings and midday slots in Alberta.

At MCSnet, we believe the true measure of our success isn’t just in the size of our network or the speed of our internet, it’s in the stories of the people who use our services every day. For over 30 years, MCSnet has been connecting families, businesses, and communities across rural Alberta, helping them stay online, stay productive, and stay connected to the world.
From gamers in Lamont to municipal leaders in St. Paul, our customers keep sharing how MCSnet has made a difference in their lives. Their experiences remind us why we continue to invest in rural connectivity and why we’re proud to call Alberta home.
Here’s what our customers are saying:
Staying Connected, Even Off the Grid
Living remotely doesn’t have to mean being disconnected. For outdoor enthusiasts and entrepreneurs like Lisa Roper, internet connection in rural Alberta isn’t a luxury, it’s a lifeline.
“Just because you live remotely doesn’t mean you need to be disconnected, and there are times you need to disconnect, the outdoors allow me to do that. But running a full-time business, you need that connection to do all the work you can do. The beauty is that I get to go have this wild adventure somewhere in rural Alberta, and I come back to get my work done. I don’t have to go to a city to do that. I am thankful for MCSnet for providing that for me — that’s a win.”
Lisa’s story highlights the balance rural Albertans are seeking: the freedom of the outdoors combined with the connectivity to run businesses from anywhere.
For Gamers and Streamers, MCSnet Does the Magic
Few things are more frustrating than buffering hockey games or lagging in online gaming. That was the life of the couple, Larry and Danielle from Lamont, Alberta, until they switched to MCSnet’s GigAir.
Larry shared: “Before we switched, there were a lot of outages, latency was not the best, but we switched to GigAir, and the problems went away. I haven’t had one outage since we started using MCSnet over a year ago.”
Danielle added, “Everything runs way more smoothly. My husband is able to watch his hockey games without any interruptions, and I can game without any issues.”
With GigAir, Larry and Danielle turned frustrating nights into seamless streaming and gaming.
Powering Communities and Towns
It’s not just households that rely on fast, dependable internet, entire communities benefit when their public spaces are connected. Steven Jeffery, Chief Administrative Officer of the Town of St. Paul, shared how MCSnet has transformed local facilities:
“It’s been a wonderful change to be able to provide public connectivity to buildings like the arena, the golf course, the clubhouse. It’s amazing to be able to have great, reliable, fast internet connection.”
For towns like St. Paul, connectivity is more than convenience; it’s community growth, stronger infrastructure, and opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
Reliability and Support You Can Count On
For Marsha Hayward, MCSnet has been more than just an internet provider, it’s been a partner through years of work, study, and life in rural Alberta.
“I have been an MCSnet customer for approximately 10 years. Previous to this, I had access to only dial-up internet or terrible technical service and signals from other providers. There has only been twice where out internet was down in all of this time. But the best thing about MCSnet has been the technical support. The technical team are wonderful—patient, courteous, and always help me solve my problems.
At Crane Lake, we have a huge hill which greatly interrupts signals to internet. With MCSnet here, that has been eliminated. There is an MCSnet tower and a radio right on top of our hill which connects to the receiver on our roof.
And recently, the fiber optics crews have been here trenching-in cable. Once technicians come this fall, we will have even better service. As a rural resident and a university student online, this has been invaluable!”
Marsha’s experience reflects the reliability, innovation, and dedicated support that sets MCSnet apart.
From a Referral to a Decade of Reliable Connection
For Brenda Mueller of rural Strathcona County, MCSnet has been the right choice for over 10 years since she got referred by a friend.
“We were reffered to MCSnet by friends when we moved to rural Strathcona County 10 years ago and we’re so glad we took our friends’ advice. MCSnet has been a great provider of our Internet service. We have never had a problem or a price increase. Thank you!!”
Sometimes the best advertising is a simple recommendation from a trusted friend, and Brenda’s story shows how loyalty builds over time.
New Customers, Smooth Start
Switching providers can feel daunting, but Melina Armitage found the process seamless:
“Recently joined and loving everything. Set up was quick and easy, the technician was very professional. Internet works amazing and I have no issues at all. Would highly recommend.”
For new customers, first impressions matter and MCSnet’s fast, professional installations leave lasting confidence.
For MCSnet, it’s About Transforming Lives
From powering rural businesses to bringing families together over movie nights and game streams, MCSnet continues to provide more than just internet; we deliver connections that matter. Our customers’ stories prove that whether you’ve been with us for a decade or just a few months, and whatever your internet needs are, you can count on us for fast speeds, reliable service, and support that feels personal.

In Alberta’s Athabasca region lies the Village of Boyle, a place where community and recreation are a way of life. In Boyle, you can find many recreational activities including curling, youth to seniors sports, golf, paintball and hunting plus much more. MCSnet is a powerful partner in Boyle by bringing reliable and affordable internet into public spaces, businesses, and homes.
How MCSnet Internet is Keeping Boyle Connected
MCSnet is keeping the users of the community centre, curling rink, and arena connected with FREE GigAir Wi-Fi hotspots. These hotspots allow for immediate reporting of minor hockey games from the scorebox straight to the webpage and sports apps as well as access to reliable internet while using the facilities.
MCSnet’s commitment to rural communities, like Boyle, goes beyond just providing the internet; it’s about enabling connections that matter. By offering free Wi-Fi in key community hubs, we’re ensuring that residents and visitors can stay connected to what they love.
What the Village of Boyle Says about Our Internet
Warren Giffin, Village of Boyle CAO, let MCSnet know that the public is very appreciative of the hotspots and they love the service. He mentioned that people make good use of it and it is appreciated. In the arena, for example, the Chamber of Commerce and some community groups worked together to hold a concert. Because of the Wi-Fi in the building, they were able to operate a point-of-sale system for attendees.
Warren had some key messages about how the internet is keeping their community connected to the outside world from a rural setting. He also stated:
“Reliable internet makes our community more accessible and more interconnected – bringing our rural community to the world on the outside. This brings positivity and is an appealing aspect to the idea that rural living is attainable.” – Warren Griffin, Village of Boyle, CAO
His advice to other organizations who are looking to improve their connection in rural Alberta is to ensure you are connecting with municipalities and look for collaboration opportunities among those municipalities and community groups.
”If you have a problem it is worth it to find a solution together.”

MCSnet has been recognized as one of the top-ranked internet service providers in Alberta and one of the fastest internet providers in the entire country. According to PCMag’s 2025 report “Northern Exposure: The Best Canadian ISPs”, MCSnet isn’t just holding its own against major urban providers, it’s outperforming most of them.
MCSnet has been recognized as one of the top-ranked internet service providers in Alberta and one of the fastest internet providers in the entire country.
According to PCMag’s 2025 report“Northern Exposure: The Best Canadian ISPs”, MCSnet isn’t just holding its own against major urban providers, it’s outperforming most of them.
“The second-fastest ISP is high-speed rural Alberta provider MCSnet. Its speed index rating rivals many of the majors, and it was fast enough to land MCSnet in sixth place nationwide for speed.”– PCMag
For a rural-based provider to be ranked sixth in all of Canada for speed is a milestone. It confirms what our customers have always known, living outside the city shouldn’t mean settling for less.
PCMag’s rankings are highly regarded in the tech world. They combine real-world speed test data from thousands of users across Canada, painting a clear and unbiased picture of who is actually delivering on their promises.
For rural Alberta, where internet infrastructure has historically lagged behind, MCSnet’s ranking is a sign of progress. It means farms, small businesses, schools, and households outside urban centres can access speeds that rival, and in some cases beat, what’s available in major cities.
Who Else Made The List?
PCMag’s 2025 list features many of Canada’s biggest ISPs, including major telecom companies such as Telus, Rogers, Eastlink, Starlink and Bell, all making the list because of their huge coverage, especially in urban centers and cities.
But MCSnet’s appearance above many of them in speed is proof that smaller, locally rooted providers can compete at the highest level and provide the best internet services for rural communities.
Why MCSnet Stands Out For Rural Alberta
While big-name ISPs dominate urban markets, MCSnet’s strength lies in combining cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of rural needs and great customer service.
Here is what makes MCSnet stand out:
Local Commitment And Understanding We know the challenges rural businesses and homes face – long driveways, dense tree lines, sparse population. Our solutions are built with that unique reality in mind.
Fast And Reliable Infrastructure Whether through fiber or wireless coverage, we’re delivering speeds that enable seamless video conferencing, streaming, smart agriculture, and more.
Superior Support No generic call centers. Our support team lives and works right here in Alberta, and they understand rural network complexities because they’ve seen them firsthand.
Community-Focused Service From local IP trailblazers to supporting community initiatives, MCSnet’s success is rooted in the very people we serve.
MCSnet’s ranking among the top ISPs in Alberta and one of the fastest in Canada, isn’t just a win for us, it’s a win for rural Alberta. It shows that with the right investment, expertise, and commitment to local service, rural internet can be world-class. Explore our plans and packages and discover how we can bring top-tier internet to your home or business.

Mental health. It’s a part of all of us, yet it’s often shrouded in silence, misconceptions, and stigma. This Canadian Mental Health Month, MCSnet believes it’s time to unmask the realities of mental health, to bring conversations into the open, and to ensure you know you are not alone and that support is available.
The truth is, mental health challenges are common. They don’t discriminate based on age, background, or where you live in our vibrant rural communities. Feelings of anxiety, stress, sadness, or overwhelming pressure are experiences many face. Sometimes these feelings are temporary, but for others, they can become persistent and significantly impact daily life.
Let’s break down some of the realities:
Mental Health is a Spectrum
Just like physical health, mental well-being exists on a continuum. We all have times when we feel good and times when we struggle. It’s not about being “sick” or “healthy,” but rather about recognizing where you are on that spectrum and taking steps to support your well-being.
Stigma Prevents People From Seeking Help
Fear of judgment, shame, or being misunderstood can be a significant barrier to reaching out. This is why open conversations and a supportive community are so vital. Let’s commit to creating a space where talking about mental health is as natural as talking about a physical ailment.
Early Intervention is Key
Just as with physical health concerns, addressing mental health challenges early can lead to better outcomes. Recognizing the signs and seeking support promptly can make a significant difference in a person’s journey to recovery and well-being.
Recovery is Possible
It’s crucial to remember that with the right support, resources, and self-care strategies, recovery from mental health challenges is absolutely possible. Hope and healing are within reach.
Unmasking the Support Systems in Your Area
The good news is that within our communities, there are dedicated resources available to support your mental health journey. Let’s shine a light on some of them:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) – Mental Health Services: AHS provides a wide array of mental health services across Alberta, including right here in our region. Don’t hesitate to reach out to their 24/7 help line at 1-877-303-2642 or explore their website at [Insert AHS Mental Health Services Website Link Here] to connect with professionals who can provide guidance and support tailored to your needs in East Central Alberta.
Your Local Primary Care Networks (PCNs): Many PCNs have integrated mental health professionals into their teams. Connect with your family doctor or your local PCN to learn about the mental health support services they offer.
Counselling Services in Your Community: From individual therapists to family counselling centres, various professionals in your specific town or county are dedicated to providing support. A local online search for “counselling services [your specific town/county]” will help you find these valuable resources.
The Distress Line: For immediate and confidential support during moments of distress or crisis, the 24/7 Distress Line at 1-800-784-2433 is a vital lifeline for anyone in Alberta.
Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) – Local Connections: Explore the CMHA Alberta website to see if there’s a local branch serving your area. They often offer community-based programs, support groups, and valuable information.
Taking Off the Mask Together
At MCSnet, we are more than just an internet service provider; we are a part of the fabric of Northeastern Alberta. We believe in fostering a community where everyone feels safe, supported, and empowered to prioritize their mental well-being. Let’s pledge to:
Educate ourselves and others about mental health realities.
Challenge stigma by speaking openly and with empathy.
Reach out to support those who may be struggling.
Prioritize our own mental health without shame.
By unmasking the realities of mental health and highlighting the accessible support systems in rural Alberta, we can collectively build a stronger, healthier, and more compassionate community.
Nurturing Your Well-being: Simple Tips for Positive Mental Health
In addition to knowing where to find support, incorporating healthy habits into your daily life can significantly boost your mental well-being. Here are a few simple yet powerful tips to consider:
Connect with Others: Strong social connections are a cornerstone of good mental health. Make time for meaningful interactions with family, friends, and your community in East Central Alberta. Whether it’s a phone call, a walk in nature together, or participating in local events, nurturing these bonds can reduce feelings of loneliness and provide a sense of belonging.
Stay Active: Physical activity isn’t just good for your body; it’s fantastic for your mind too! Find activities you enjoy, whether it’s hiking in the beautiful landscapes of Alberta, cycling, gardening, or simply taking a brisk walk around your neighbourhood in East Central Alberta. Exercise releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects.
Practice Mindfulness: Take moments throughout your day to tune into the present. This could involve deep breathing exercises, meditation (even just for a few minutes), or simply paying attention to your senses – what you see, hear, smell, taste, and touch – right here in your East Central Alberta surroundings. Mindfulness can help reduce stress and increase self-awareness.
Get Enough Sleep: Quality sleep is essential for both your physical and mental health. Aim for 7-9 hours of restful sleep each night. Establish a regular sleep schedule and create a relaxing bedtime routine to optimize your sleep.
Eat Well: Nourishing your body with a balanced diet can also positively impact your mood and energy levels. Focus on whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Learn Something New: Engaging your mind through learning can boost confidence and provide a sense of purpose. Consider taking up a new hobby, reading a book, or exploring online courses. East Central Alberta has many opportunities for lifelong learning and skill development.
Set Realistic Goals: Having goals gives you something to work towards, but it’s important to set achievable ones. Break down larger goals into smaller, manageable steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Celebrate your progress along the way!
Practice Gratitude: Regularly taking time to appreciate the good things in your life, no matter how small, can shift your focus towards positivity. Consider keeping a gratitude journal or simply reflecting on what you’re thankful for each day.
Limit Exposure to Excessive News and Social Media: While staying informed is important, constantly consuming negative news or spending excessive time on social media can negatively impact your mental well-being. Set healthy boundaries and take breaks when needed.
Seek Help When You Need It: Remember that it’s okay to not be okay, and reaching out for support is a sign of strength. Utilize the resources mentioned earlier if you’re struggling or simply need someone to talk to.
By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can proactively nurture your mental health and build greater resilience. Remember, taking care of your mind is an ongoing journey, and every small step you take makes a difference for yourself and our communities.

Having a strong social media presence is no longer optional for businesses—it’s essential. Social media helps boost your brand’s visibility, connect with your community, address customer service issues, and drive business growth.
Whether you’re a small business or a larger organization, these updated tips will help you maximize your social media game in today’s fast-paced digital world.
#1: Define Your Goals and KPIs
Social media isn’t just about posting; it’s about purpose. Are you aiming for brand awareness, lead generation, customer engagement, or sales? Clearly define your goals and establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure success. Tools like Meta Business Suite Insights or native insights from your social account backend can help track your progress effectively.
Make your goals SMART -Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For example: Increase Instagram engagement by 25% in three months, generate 50 leads monthly via Facebook, build brand awareness, build brand affinity and stronger connections with your audience.
#2: Create a Content Calendar
Consistency remains key, but now you can automate much of the process. Use tools like Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social or Later to schedule posts weeks in advance. Plan seasonal campaigns and industry-specific content to maintain relevance.
Leverage trending topics and events to amplify your reach. Platforms like BuzzSumo can help you discover trending topics.
#3: Develop a Consistent Voice, Visual Identity and Storytelling
Your social media is your brand’s personality online. Define your tone and ensure consistency across all platforms. Similarly, create a cohesive visual identity using tools like Canva or Adobe Express for consistent fonts, colors, and graphics.
Incorporate a personal touch in captions, behind-the-scenes content, and interactive stories to humanize your brand. Platforms like Instagram Stories and TikTok are perfect for this.
#4: Leverage Visual Content and Emerging Formats
Visuals remain a powerful tool, but today’s social media users demand even more creativity. Integrate videos, carousel posts, infographics, and even live-streaming to capture attention. Tools like CapCut, InShot, and Canva Pro make content creation easier than ever, right on your mobile phone.
Platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts thrive on short, engaging videos. Highlight customer testimonials, product demos, or tips in a bite-sized format.
#5: Dive Deeper into Analytics
Social media analytics are no longer optional—they’re your roadmap. Platforms like Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social or Later and native analytics on the backend of your social accounts offer in-depth insights into post performance, audience demographics, and engagement rates.
Run A/B tests on your designs, captions, and visuals to determine what resonates best with your audience. Refine your strategy based on real-time results.
#6: Watch Competitors and Collaborate
Analyzing your competitors remains a great way to learn. However, collaboration with complementary brands can amplify your reach. Cross-promote each other’s services or run joint campaigns to tap into new audiences.
Platforms like SEMrush and Social Blade allow you to track competitor performance, helping you benchmark your strategy and stay ahead.
Bonus Tip: Stay Engaged
Respond promptly to comments, messages, and reviews. Engage with your audience through polls, Q&A sessions, or giveaways to build loyalty and trust.

The resort works closely with school boards and provides over 5,000 students each year the opportunity to ski or snowboard with their peers in a safe environment while staying healthy with physical activity. Building a Legacy: MCSnet Supports the Next Generation of Skiers
At MCSnet, we’re passionate about supporting our local communities, and that includes cheering on the next generation of athletes. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to sponsor the Cold Lake Alpine Ski Society, home of the Kinosoo Blizzards Alpine Ski Team. This last year in 2024 they celebrated their 20th anniversary!
Who are the Blizzards?
The Blizzards are a dedicated team of volunteer coaches and young skiers based in the Lakeland region of Alberta who train out of the Kinosoo Ridge Resort. They train hard, compete with passion, and embody the spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork. With ages ranging from 6 to 18, these athletes are not only developing their skiing skills but also building valuable life lessons in dedication, perseverance, and camaraderie.
Two Decades of Dedication
Founded in 2004 by Chris and Bev Holoboff (whose legacy is honored with the “Holoboff’s Hut” coaches shed!), the Kinosoo Blizzards Ski Team has been a cornerstone of youth development in the Lakeland region. They’ve fostered a love for skiing, built strong athletes, and created a vibrant community on the slopes.
Small Team, Big Achievements
Despite being a smaller club, the Blizzards consistently achieve impressive results. Just last year, their female U14 racers dominated the regional finals, taking 3 of the top 6 spots! This is a testament to their dedication and the quality training they receive, thanks in part to the support of MCSnet.
Looking Ahead: Races, Games, and Giving Back
The Blizzards have an exciting year ahead, hosting their annual Blizzard Blast race on February 8th and 9th, and gearing up to host the Alberta Winter Games in the Lakeland in February 2026! They also demonstrate their community spirit by supporting the Skijoring for MS fundraiser, with many current and former racers
MCSnet’s Impact: Making Skiing Accessible
Our sponsorship helps the Blizzards provide high-quality training for their volunteer coaches and athletes, both at home in Cold Lake and at mountain training camps. Thanks to this support, CLASS can offer the lowest registration fees in Alberta Alpine Ski Racing, ensuring that all aspiring skiers have the opportunity to participate. Here’s to 20 years of the Cold Lake Alpine Ski Society and many more to come!
