We generally advise against placing your router in your basement, and especially not in a utility room. The more walls and electronics devices around the router, the greater chance for interference and blockage of the Wi-Fi signal.
If you have a lot of walls or other obstacles in your home, you may need to experiment with different locations to find the spot that provides the best coverage. Some routers come with built-in signal strength indicators that can help you find the best location. Our installers will also provide advice on where they think the best location for your router during your installation.
It is also a good idea to keep your router away from other electronic devices, as these can cause interference with the signal. For example, you should avoid placing your router near a microwave oven, cordless phone, or other electronic devices.
