Skeleton Lake sits about 6.5 km northeast of Boyle along Highway 63. Mewatha Beach, on the lake’s western shore, is known for a long, curved stretch of sandy beach and has grown to around 100 residents. Bondiss, at the eastern tip, is home to the Skeleton Lake Golf & Country Club, a 9-hole, par-36 course open since 1972, with an earlier course on the same site in the 1960s, plus a licensed restaurant and pro shop.
Cabin development here goes back to 1958, and today the lake carries close to 1,000 lots and campsites between the two villages. It has always been more of a golf-and-cabin lake than a trophy fishing lake, and a local stewardship association keeps an eye on water levels and habitat as the lake has dropped over the past three decades.
Mewatha Beach and Bondiss are both named communities in MCSnet’s current federally supported fiber expansion, with construction scheduled to complete by March 2027.
