What a Good Connection Actually Gets You

Dependable internet is not a luxury anymore. It is family movie night streaming without the spinning wheel, the kids gaming with friends two provinces over, a video call to a child working away, and a rural business reaching customers anywhere. It is a full house of phones, TVs, laptops, and cameras all running at once without anyone shouting to get off the internet.

MCSnet is built to carry all of it. Check what reaches your address and we will show you the speeds available where you live, then help you match them to how your household actually uses the internet.

A Free Connection for the Hall That Holds the Community Together

In fall 2021, MCSnet installed complimentary high-speed internet at the Rich Lake Recreation & Agricultural Society hall on short notice, so the building could serve as a federal election polling station. That connection never got switched off. It is still running today under MCSnet’s Community Connections program, and the Society credits it with letting them run efficient Zoom meetings and keep an active Facebook presence to promote events, work that mattered most during the years when in-person gatherings were hardest to hold.

It is a small thing to give a hall its internet for free. It is also exactly the kind of neighbour MCSnet tries to be in the communities we serve.

A Hall That Serves More Than Rich Lake

Rich Lake sits just north of Highway 55, roughly midway between Lac La Biche and St. Paul. The Rich Lake Recreation & Agricultural Society was founded in 1965 by local farming and ranching families and became a registered Alberta Agricultural Society in 1988. Its grounds include an outdoor hockey rink, the community hall, a museum and antique building, and an indoor riding arena used for roping practice and youth gymkhana, and the Society draws members from across the wider Lakeland, including Lac La Biche, Bonnyville, Glendon, Mallaig, and St. Paul. Métis visual artist and cultural tattoo practitioner Amy Malbeuf is from the Rich Lake area.
