Dependable internet is not a luxury anymore. It is family movie night streaming without the spinning wheel, the kids gaming with friends two provinces over, a video call to a child working away, and a rural business reaching customers anywhere. It is a full house of phones, TVs, laptops, and cameras all running at once without anyone shouting to get off the internet.
MCSnet is built to carry all of it. Check what reaches your address and we will show you the speeds available where you live, then help you match them to how your household actually uses the internet.
MCSnet installed complimentary GigAir Wi-Fi hotspots at three spots where Boyle comes together: the Community Centre, the Curling Rink, and the Arena at the Millview Recreation Complex. That means point-of-sale and event connectivity at the Community Centre, score-sharing and streaming at the Curling Rink, and live scorebox reporting for hockey games and community gatherings at the Arena.
Village of Boyle CAO Warren Giffin put it simply: reliable internet “makes our community more accessible and more interconnected,” and rural connectivity helps prove that “rural living is attainable.”
Boyle has been on the map since 1916, incorporated as a village in 1953, and named for former Alberta education minister John Robert Boyle. Today its roughly 825 residents share the community with Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries (Al-Pac), the kraft pulp mill that anchors the regional forestry economy and lists Boyle as its home address.
The calendar fills up fast: the Wildberry Festival brings a pancake breakfast, parade, and farmers’ market downtown every August, and the Hell on Hooves Rodeo and Dance draws barrel racing and bronc riding to the Agricultural Grounds every July. Add curling since 1957, the Millview Recreation Complex ice rink, and Xcalibre Paintball Park, and Boyle keeps busy well past quitting time.
In 2022, MCSnet completed a 90 kilometre, $2.25 million fiber expansion, half funded by the federal Universal Broadband Fund, bringing fiber to the home in Boyle along with neighbouring Colinton and Grassland. Track ongoing builds on the fiber projects page, and see every plan and price on the plans page.
Skeleton Lake’s cabins and golf club are a short drive east at Skeleton Lake, Colinton and Grassland share Boyle’s fiber build, and Long Lake Provincial Park is south on Highway 831. Explore the rest of Athabasca County or the wider MCSnet network.
