Baptiste Lake sits about 184 km north of Edmonton, west of the Town of Athabasca, and four summer villages share its shore: Sunset Beach (population 55) and Whispering Hills (128) on the eastern side, South Baptiste (70) and West Baptiste (46) on the south and west. The four villages and Athabasca County govern the lake together under a shared intermunicipal development plan.

Baptiste Lake is a working lake: power boating, water skiing, swimming, and canoeing all summer, with yellow perch, northern pike, and walleye drawing anglers to the public boat launch on the lake’s southwest corner.
