Shaw House takes its name from Angus Shaw, a fur trader who established a North West Company trading post in the area, and now operates as the MD of Bonnyville’s visitor information and interpretive centre near Moose Lake and Vezeau Beach. The building houses the M.D. Trading Post artisan market, a tourist information counter, a summer concession, a community boardroom, and offices for the municipality’s Parks, Recreation and Culture department. The centre is open year round, with extended hours seven days a week through the summer season.
MCSnet sponsors a free Wi-Fi hotspot at Shaw House, so visitors picking up trail and campground information, shopping the artisan market, or using the boardroom can get online. It shares the same network name and password as MCSnet’s other MD of Bonnyville hotspots, including the Bonnyville Historical Society and the Bonnyville Performing Arts Theatre.
