The Myrnam Derwent Golf Club is a nine-hole course between Myrnam and Derwent, built more than fifty years ago by community members who handpicked the rocks off the land and donated the grass seed, fertilizer, water, and some of the equipment to get it going. Alongside the course the club keeps 17 camping sites, nine of them powered, a clubhouse, a playground area, and a picnic area.
MCSnet sponsors the Wi-Fi connection at the club as part of its community partnership program, so golfers, campers, and the volunteers who run the place can get online at the clubhouse without hunting for a cell signal. The club works with New Myrnam School, which uses the course for cross country skiing in winter, and with local 4-H clubs, whose participants golf for free. Regular fixtures include Women’s Night, Glo Golf, and the club’s memorial tournament.

A nine-hole course this far from a bigger town runs on volunteers and word of mouth to bring people out. Free Wi-Fi at the clubhouse lets those volunteers post event details, take payments, and keep campers and golfers connected while they are on site.
