Irma is a village on Highway 14 in the MD of Wainwright, about twenty minutes northwest of the Town of Wainwright and roughly ninety minutes east of Edmonton. It grew up with the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway and is, by local tradition, named for the daughter of the railway’s second vice-president, General William Wainwright, the same man the Town of Wainwright is named for, a shared bit of history between the two communities.
