About Irma Curling Club

The Irma Curling Club runs four sheets of artificial ice, with a full kitchen and a large lounge that doubles as a community gathering spot through the winter. Open league play draws men’s, ladies’, and mixed teams through the week, alongside a stick curling session for a more relaxed pace, and the club rents out its lounge and ice for private events. Every summer the club hosts the Irma Summerspiel, an annual bonspiel that wraps up on the first Monday in August, alongside the Irma Days weekend of ball, golf, and a rancher’s rodeo.

MCSnet sponsors the internet connection at the club, so curlers between ends, volunteers running the kitchen, and visitors in town for the Summerspiel can all get online without relying on cell signal. It is one of three MCSnet hotspots in Irma, alongside the Irma Horizon Senior Centre and the Irma Arena, all sharing the same network name and password.

Why Free Wi-Fi Here Matters

A small-town curling club runs on volunteers coordinating leagues, ice schedules, and a bonspiel that brings visitors from out of town, often with patchy cell coverage this far from Wainwright. A free, encrypted Wi-Fi connection means curlers and volunteers can stay online from the rink or the lounge without burning through their own data.

MCSnet sponsors this hotspot as part of its community partnership program across rural Alberta. See every free Wi-Fi hotspot in Irma, the full hotspot directory, or read about internet across MD of Wainwright.
