About Athabasca & District Seniors Centre

The Athabasca & District Seniors Centre is a drop-in hub run by and for the town’s older adults, a short walk from downtown Athabasca. Members gather through the week for cards, games, coffee visits, and organized programs, and the centre acts as a home base for seniors’ services and social connection across the wider Athabasca area.

MCSnet sponsors the internet connection at the centre so members and visitors can get online without relying on a phone plan. That matters for a membership that skews toward fixed incomes and older devices: a free, reliable connection makes it easier to video call grandchildren, look up a doctor’s appointment, or simply check email while waiting for a program to start. The centre is one of three MCSnet sponsored hotspots on the public list for the town of Athabasca.

Why Free Wi-Fi Here Matters

Many members of a seniors’ centre are on limited data plans or have no cellular data at all, and a public building is often the easiest place to get comfortable, unhurried access to the internet. A free Wi-Fi connection at the centre removes a barrier that would otherwise keep some seniors offline entirely.

MCSnet sponsors this hotspot as part of its community partnership program across rural Alberta. See every free Wi-Fi hotspot in Athabasca, the full hotspot directory, or read about high speed internet in Athabasca.
